Design by Jamie!

I made this Imke before we went away...I've only just got round to posting it!
Now, the story behind this one...I was looking on EBay for some fabric for Jamie to make him a fleece hoody, and found some gorgeous 'kid' fabrics - robots, cars, trains, bright colours...
I saved them in my watch list, and decided to let him pick.
So, he looked....and picked a plain, dark brown stretch corduroy that had been in my watch list for another project! lol! No amount of persuasion would get him to change his mind...so I ordered it!
When it arrived, I decided to let him go the whole way and choose everything...the style, the applique wording and fabric - even down to the colours of thread!
So this is what he came up with...I think the boy has some serious designing in his future, it looks great - definitely not bad for a soon-to-be-4 year old!

The orange and blue zig zag stitching...they had to be on top of each other, not side by side...
The pocket on the sleeve...
The 'DUDE' applique...
and a couple of pics of the finished item!

Of camera bags and hoodies.....

This week, I FINALLY finished the camera bag I've been working on for MONTHS. Literally.
The first draft can be seen here...and this one is a LONG way from that! There's been drawings, and calculations, and yes, I'll admit it - some swearing lol!
But it's finally done. It's by no means perfect, being only the second thing I've ever sewn with oilcloth (steep learning curve isn't the half of it lol!), but I love it, and as it's for me, that's all that matters. I was so close to giving up on it and throwing it in the bin a few times, and I'm so glad I didn't! I finally have a bag I can get ALL my stuff in - my lenses, macro tubes, filters, manual (ha ha!) and of course my camera!
So here it is. Blood, Sweat and Tears.....but I did it.

I've also made my first girly Imke this week....not quite as exciting as the camera bag, but I love it and I'm really pleased with how it came together. It's made from fleece, with an applique that I upcycled from a girls RTW tshirt, and binding made from an old adult tshirt of mine that matched the colour perfectly!
I also added a long custom 'curly' hood with a pom pom.
Please excuse the 'model'......poor boy ha ha!

So there you have it. Not much sewing, I grant you, but I'm happy!

Impulse sewing....

I really do love my Sewing Clothes Kids Love book.
I got up this morning, and wanted to sew something, so out it came, and I decided on the Avalon Jacket.
Now, you all know I don't have a girl to sew for, but I see it as all good practice on sewing techniques and pattern construction...I love the way all those random looking pieces of fabric suddenly all come together and become something!
So, another day of sewing for sewing's sake...and why not?
I used decor weight fabrics, and they seem to work really well for a jacket...and the ribbon on the back actually matches a lot better than it looks in the photo lol!
So here it is!

Front...
 Back...
And a quick shot of the ribbon detail!
Thanks for looking, and happy sewing, if sewing is what you're doing!

Superman, Custom Feliz, and a sneaky peek!

Hi all!
Thought I'd show you my latest creations....
Russ had this tshirt for ages, and loved it, but it got a little tight for him lol! So I rescued it from the trash, and turned it into a shirt for Jamie.
Jamie decided he needed to do some of his 'posing' shots.....

Then I made this Feliz today...it's a little different to the usual style I make. It has no overdress, no frills, but it does have the sash ties still, with grosgrain ribbon straps and a giant applique flower. I love the way this turned out!

and finally....a sneaky peek at the oilcloth camera bag I'm working on...it's going ok so far lol!

Thanks for looking!

A catch up . . .

With everything that's been going on, I haven't really felt much like posting here....so I suppose I should catch up on everything I've made since the last time I posted. (Don't worry, there's not tonnes...I haven't felt much like sewing, either!)

Firstly, a Feliz dress I sewed for my friend's little girl to wear to a wedding...

Then yesterday I made some self-drafted camera strap covers...these are all for sale on my Stuff Mummy Makes Facebook Page...

and finally, a self drafted oilcloth shopper that I made today! I'm seriously in love with this bag....and as it looks like I've sold this one already, I might just have to make another one for myself lol!

This was my first time working with oilcloth, and I love it! It was also my first time making an elasticated pocket, so yay!

And that's it! (See, I told you it wasn't loads lol!)

Thanks for looking

Sorry it's been quiet here....

But I have a lot going on right now personally, and I don't seem to have been able to find the spare time or energy to get on here and post.
But today, I decided if I don't start updating it now, I never will...so here goes.
Firstly, you'll see the new look...I decided it was time for a change, and I wanted something fresh and different - hope you like it!

These are a few things I've made lately(yes, I've still managed to make time to sew - if I didn't, I'd go bonkers!).

Firsty - here's a (little bit) better picture of the bunting I made.
here's another Imke for Jamie - this one made from linen with a button fastening yoke.
a couple of camera strap covers - one for a friend, and one for me!

a Farbenmix Insa skirt...
and a pair of Farbenmix Dortje pants changed up a little for a boy (it's a girl pattern!)
Jamie seems to like them...lol!
and finally...a first attempt project - I followed this sandpaper crayon transfer tutorial here...it's fantastic.
Now I know it works, next time I'll make it a little neater ha ha!

Jamie's nickname is Monkeybum, so he's my little surfin' Monkeybum - bet you won't find another tshirt with that one anywhere lol!
Phew - that was quite a lot of stuff - thanks for looking!

Kung Fu Panda, Thomas, and Swing Birds.....

As we're off to Pandamonium in the Park on Saturday, I told Jamie I was going to make him a new shirt to wear and he said he wanted a Kung Fu Panda one lol!
So, one modified Imke hoody later - here it is!
I added a custom curved yoke...and Panda ears.
He loves it.
I also made another Thomas back pack - this time in red - for my friend Jane's little man. I think it looks great in this colour!
and finally, a self drafted camera strap cover with a lens cover pocket...I actually need to make myself one of these now lol!
So all in all a productive day here at SMM Towers lol!

Hot hot hot!

Wow, the weather has been glorious here for ever.....long may it continue lol!
I haven't got a lot of sewing done, but thought I'd share what I have made.....
I needed to make up a Romance bag for the tutorial I'm doing to go with the pattern pieces I've already put up, so this is what I came up with! It's the Big Romance pattern....and a phone case I self drafted to go with it!
then, as my lovely man bought me the 'Sewing Clothes Kids Love' book, I thought I should get some more use out of it other than just the Feliz! I decided to have a go at the Imke hooded top for Jamie. I upcycled it from two of his Daddy's tshirts - the stripey one had a huge logo/pattern on it that would have been cut through and looked odd if I had left it, so I self drafted a square yoke for the shirt that eliminated the problem nicely!
Jamie likes it, and I'm pleased with how it turned out, so that's good - I'll definitely make it again.
and finally.....yes, it's been in the 80 degree range here....but sometimes, a boy just needs to make fairy cakes.
So we did.
I love to bake with Jamie - he's so enthusiastic, and gets so annoyed every time we have to actually COOK them before we can eat them - he's so funny!

Farbenmix Feliz Dress!

Well the thermometer has been in the low 90's for most of the day here today, and what have I been doing?
That's right, boys and girls...I've been sewing a Feliz!
I started about 9.30am this morning, and finished it around 5.30pm this evening - I didn't even stop for lunch lol! (Ok, so I stopped and made Jamie some.....)

I'm so pleased with it, especially considering it's my first one and I don't generally 'do' patterns - I just hope the little lady I made it for likes it too! (I know her Mum does ha ha). The more I look at it, the more I think it has a touch of Alice in Wonderland about it lol!

So anyway...pics...

Close up of the ruffly bits!
Thanks for looking - lets hope it's a bit cooler tomorrow!

Long time no see lol!

Sorry I've been MIA for a little while - I've had a project or 6 that I've been working on, but had to keep a secret until now as the people they were a surprise for have my blog addy lol! So now they all have them - I can show you!
Some of you will know my Dad's been in hospital...and his nurses did such a good job that he wanted to give them a thank you gift! So he asked me to make each of them a bag, as some of them had seen the one I made my Mum for Mother's Day and said they liked it!
And here they are - all six of them lol!

By all accounts they were very pleased with them, so yay! I'm glad I was able to do something nice for them after the great way they looked after my Dad!

Also, remember my post with the photoshopped Farbenmix Vida dress? Well, I finally got it made! Yay me!
Here it is.....I'm so happy with it - I think it's the most ambitious single item I've made since I started sewing!

The back of the dress....
 and the front!
I think I'm going to have a weekend off now lol!

Thanks for looking, hope you have a great long weekend!

Catch Up Time (Again!)

Wow!   So much to catch up on... Not sure why, but my blog has been on my mind lately and so I popped over - I can't believe it's ...
