Finally!!

While trying to get a better photo of my crop hoodie (every time I look at the other one I cringe lol!) I had a little man trying to get 'in' on the photo...so in the end I gave up and let him! I have so few photos of us both together...and it wasn't until afterwards I realised we're BOTH wearing 'Stuff Mummy Makes' lol!

and I'll sneak this one in too....a pic of Russ I took last night for his website!
Hubba Hubba!!

Crop Hoodie

Well this is the 2nd thing I've sewn for myself - a crop hoodie! It's another upcycle - from 2 sweatshirts.
Excuse the bad photo...I HATE being this side of the camera, it's late, and Russ was then running out the door to go to work, so it's a little rushed to say the least lol! I'll try and get a better one tomorrow!

T-Shirt Flower Tutorial

Yes, my first tutorial...
No, it's not for a boys shirt lol!
I thought I'd break myself in gently with a tutorial for these pretty flowers...I have a feeling you'll be seeing a few of them when I start making things for myself to wear!

Firstly, you will need:
an old tshirt (size doesn't matter!) or tshirt scraps
some co-ordinating thread
a needle
some scissors.

First, cut out a petal shape you like from the tshirt.
This is mine.

Next, cut out 7 more. It doesn't matter if they're not identical...I actually think they look better if they're not - just make sure they're all pretty much the same length!

Next, you need to thread them onto your needle, like this...make sure you double stitch them (so the needle goes through twice) otherwise they won't gather properly!

Keep going until you've done all 8....

Then gather them all up together (I like to call it 'squishing' lol!)

Next, carefully tie the 2 end of your thread together as tightly as possible, and trim the shortest of the two threads.

You can now leave the flowers like this (in a bud shape), or you can fan them out into a flower shape, making sure the gathered ends in the middle are on the side you wish to see, so they make a nice centre!

You now have your flower!!

You can use the length of thread still attached to sew it onto anything you like...tshirt, bag, hair clip, hair band...the possibilities are endless!

Happy making, and thanks for looking!

Skinny Jeans upcycle

I've been working on these for a while....not that they've taken long to do, but I just keep finding other things I'd rather do more lol!

I'm very glad I finished them up though - they turned out quite well, and Jamie even told me 'I like these Mummy,  they're comfy!', so that's a seal of approval right there!

Excuse the picture - I couldn't get him to stand still for love nor money (or cookies!) - and he insisted on wearing his hat again ha ha!!

The worn patches on the back were the knees on the original pair of his Daddy's jeans.

and I thought I'd add this one just for fun...what a cutie, eh?

Thanks for looking.

Contrast Hoodie

Made this for Jamie last night - he seems to be loving all these new clothes lol!
I was going to do a picture tutorial for this, but it's hopeless trying to get photos at night (the only time when I get to sew) - the photos all come out awful!
I will do another one of these in the near future though, and see if I can get some better pictures for a tutorial for you!
Anyway, here is the finished product - the weather was actually nice today, so we went out in the garden! Yay!
Sorry about the number of pictures - I got a little carried away ha ha ha!!

Thanks for looking (and well done if you made it this far lol!)

Stuff Jamie Makes???

I was sitting doing some hand sewing this morning, when Jamie asked me if he could have a go!
So I dug out my biggest, bluntest needle, some scrap fabric, some thread...and set him off! He loved it - but didn't want to stop ha ha ha!

Here is him sewing, and the final results...I'm hoping I can incorporate this into something I make for him (somehow lol!)

I hope I'm not going to have to start a new blog for him.....lol!

So excited!

I actually ordered some fabric yesterday to make something for me!!
Yes...a PROPER order...of NEW FABRIC!
Not something that used to be something else...
CUTE
NEW
PRISTINE
GORGEOUS
FABRIC
!!!

I can't wait for it to get here....can you tell? lol!

The fabric is

Soul Blossom - Disco Flower in chocolate by Amy Butler...I am seriously in lust love with her fabric!

Would you like to see what I intend to make with it?

It's a skirt very similar to this one..

I'm using a brown fabric for the main skirt, and then the Amy Butler for the lining (the yellow on the picture in the link) - I think it will look fantastic...but wish me luck as I'm *shock horror* using a pattern!
It's an a-line wrap skirt pattern and I'm going to add the buttons and folds myself.

Can't wait til it gets here.......squeeeee!!!!!

I ordered it from Sew Me Happy - a great shop who were so friendly and helpful - and best of all, they're UK based so I don't have to wait aaaaaages for delivery! Yippee!! I can't wait to shop with them again, you should check them out!

Rockin' Guitar Tee

I made this shirt from an old one of mine, but felt it needed 'something' to lift it a little...so I decided to make something to go on the front out of a scrap of red tshirt I had left over from something else.
I asked Jamie what he would like on it - he pointed to Russ's bass on the wall and said 'A guitar, Mummy!'

So that's what he got!
The knobs on the guitar are made from snap fasteners as I didn't have any buttons small enough (I'm not even sure they make buttons THAT small lol!)

He seems to like it...

Taking the shirt off my back....lol!

I made this for Jamie today...
it's a recycle of one of my old shirts that I'd been hanging on to for ages in the hope that I'd either get back into it (fat chance!) or be hit with some inspiration of what to do with it...I loved it too much to throw it away!
So I came across this amazing tutorial from lilblueboo http://lilblueboo.blogspot.com/2011/02/miniaturizing-mens-shirt-tutorial.html and decided that the shirt would look very cute on Jamie!
So here it is...

Trains Play Mat

I made this for Jamie today...I've been looking for a train play mat for a while now, but only seem to be able to find car play mats...and Jamie does love his trains!
So I decided to have a go at making one - it's not great, but it has the sea for the wharf, the pond, and a field just like Sodor island in Thomas the Tank Engine, so Jamie's happy! Best of all - it has lots of tracks!

One for me, at last!!

So I thought it was about time I had a go at sewing something for ME to wear.

I decided on a tunic/dress (can be worn as either) - still no pattern ha ha ha! It's upcycled from a duvet cover.

Russ says I look like a jedi in it...but that's men for you, eh? lol!

I'm so pleased with it - it's comfy, looks nice on, and I MADE IT!

Getting an early start...

Well for some reason, (and trust me, this NEVER happens!), I'm making an early start on things for that most dreaded of C-words... CHRI...
