Stuff Jamie Makes . . . (and a very simple tutorial!)

I don't always remember to post (or photograph) the little projects that me and Jamie come up with to keep him entertained, and I'm pretty sure that some (most!) of them you wouldn't want to read about ha ha!
But it was raining bucketfuls today, he was bored, and so I came up with this!
It's really very easy, very fun, and you can eat the leftovers. No, really, you can!

You will need...

a piece of card (not too thick - you need to be able to put holes in it!)
the largest needle you can find (ours was a very big, very blunt darning type)
some thinnish ribbon (you need to be able to thread it through the needle)
some Cheerios (Note: other ring-shaped cereals are available.)

Ok. Got all that? Good.

Firstly, draw a simple shape on your card. I wanted a heart - Jamie, being a boy and finding hearts 'too girly, Mummy!' chose a triangle.
Now, all around your shape, poke holes through the card at 1cm intervals.
Then thread your needle with the ribbon, put a knot at the end, and start sewing...
needle up through the hole from the back, add a Cheerio, down through the next hole, up through the third, add a Cheerio, and so on. It looks pretty cool when you're finished, it's simple enough for a young (ish) child to do (mine's nearly 4) and they get a great sense of achievement when it's finished!
Here's some photos of our project this morning...
Let's get started...
I'm getting the hang of this now, Mummy...
FINISHED! (I think I'll just eat these Cheerios that were left over nom nom nom!)
Thanks for looking, hope you have fun with this!

A catch up . . .

With everything that's been going on, I haven't really felt much like posting here....so I suppose I should catch up on everything I've made since the last time I posted. (Don't worry, there's not tonnes...I haven't felt much like sewing, either!)

Firstly, a Feliz dress I sewed for my friend's little girl to wear to a wedding...

Then yesterday I made some self-drafted camera strap covers...these are all for sale on my Stuff Mummy Makes Facebook Page...

and finally, a self drafted oilcloth shopper that I made today! I'm seriously in love with this bag....and as it looks like I've sold this one already, I might just have to make another one for myself lol!

This was my first time working with oilcloth, and I love it! It was also my first time making an elasticated pocket, so yay!

And that's it! (See, I told you it wasn't loads lol!)

Thanks for looking

Sad News . . .

Sorry I've not been around, but there's been a lot going on...
first and foremost, we lost my Dad on the 10th August. He had been ill for 5 months, so it wasn't a shock, but still awful. Cancer SUCKS!
He was always so happy, smiley and full of laughter, so I've decided that he wouldn't want me to be sad, and remember his illness - instead I'll remember all the good things and smile. I just wanted to say something about it, not pretend on the blog that it didn't happen - life and blogging can't always be about the good things.
So, I miss you Dad, love you always, and I'm smiling as I type this, just for you.

Retro Long Shorts...

Jamie needed some new 3/4 length trousers (or long shorts, jams, whichever you prefer!) so I decided to have a go with this old pattern (it has copyright 1972 on it lol!) I have for some long trousers and just change it up! Aren't they awesome? I really am considering making the whole outfit, waistcoat and all ha ha!

I used an old shirt of Russ's for the fabric, and added white bias tape trim on the front pocket (the front panel was cut from the front of the shirt, so I didn't even need to make a pocket - it was already on the front of the shirt lol!) and as tabs on the bottom cuffs, just as a contrast accent.

He seems to like them!

Woohoo! I got picked!

Yes, Shwin&Shwin have been having a Boys Tee week, and asked people to post photos in their Boys Tee Flickr group......

Well, they did their Boys Tee Week Roundup today - and picked one of mine! Eek! I was so excited when I saw it in my Google Reader feed this morning!

It was this Striped Top with 'J' Applique, remember? It's always been one of my favourites of his...I think when he grows out of it I'll have to make a bigger one lol!

Thank you so much to them - their Flickr Group and great tutorials they've had all week have certainly been an inspiration!

Thanks for looking!

Sorry it's been quiet here....

But I have a lot going on right now personally, and I don't seem to have been able to find the spare time or energy to get on here and post.
But today, I decided if I don't start updating it now, I never will...so here goes.
Firstly, you'll see the new look...I decided it was time for a change, and I wanted something fresh and different - hope you like it!

These are a few things I've made lately(yes, I've still managed to make time to sew - if I didn't, I'd go bonkers!).

Firsty - here's a (little bit) better picture of the bunting I made.
here's another Imke for Jamie - this one made from linen with a button fastening yoke.
a couple of camera strap covers - one for a friend, and one for me!

a Farbenmix Insa skirt...
and a pair of Farbenmix Dortje pants changed up a little for a boy (it's a girl pattern!)
Jamie seems to like them...lol!
and finally...a first attempt project - I followed this sandpaper crayon transfer tutorial here...it's fantastic.
Now I know it works, next time I'll make it a little neater ha ha!

Jamie's nickname is Monkeybum, so he's my little surfin' Monkeybum - bet you won't find another tshirt with that one anywhere lol!
Phew - that was quite a lot of stuff - thanks for looking!

Getting an early start...

Well for some reason, (and trust me, this NEVER happens!), I'm making an early start on things for that most dreaded of C-words... CHRI...
